Earth Day 2010

Rubio's press release

Have you hugged your earth today?

Earth Day 2010 is an opportunity to pause and reflect on how we can be a better friend to the earth and the ocean. It's a chance for individuals, corporations and governments to join together and create a global green economy. While climate change is the greatest challenge of our time, it also presents a wonderful opportunity to build a healthy, prosperous, clean energy environment now and into the future. Join the more than one billion people in 190 countries that are taking action for Earth Day!

Rubio's earth-friendly initiatives go live.

In honor of Earth Day, Rubio's launched its environment-focused web page to share our eco-friendly practices and plans with our guests. Our web page focuses on communicating our progress in areas important to our guests, including the introduction and testing of recycled, compostable, reusable or FSC-certified packaging and printed materials, our recycling program, information about sustainable and nutritious food, community involvement in "ocean friendly" charities, eco-friendly practices at our Restaurant Support Center and the green elements of our new store designs (including "Smart lighting", broad use of recycled materials, low VOC paints and energy and water saving practices). So, stay tuned to get the latest on how Rubio's initiatives are contributing to a greener tomorrow.

A healthy ocean is a happy ocean.

Since much of Rubio's Beach Mex® menu includes seafood, we are passionate about preserving healthy oceans. Rubio's eco-friendly initiatives, therefore, focus on green and environmentally conscious practices that are important to our guests and our business, as well as those which contribute positively to the environment with special emphasis on being a friend to the ocean. Check out our Environment section to track our latest initiatives and community involvement.

Join us for our next beach cleanup!

Another way Rubio's is helping to promote a clean ocean is by participating in beach cleanups. In fact, our last beach cleanup was held during the Creek to Bay Cleanup on April 24, 2010, for which we are also a site sponsor at our adopted beach. (Visit www.creektobay.org).
